Press release for v2.1.0 went out via Games Press
The trade service Games Press picked up the release about the country editor. The headline there reads:
Retro football manager Whistle1 lets players build their own football countries in free 2.1.0 update
Why this was the second attempt
A release already went out in June. It quietly fizzled, with no reply and no publication. What made the difference the second time was not the wire service but the message itself. The first attempt put a version number in the title, the second said what players can do with it.
What a wire service actually does
It puts the release into editorial inboxes, nothing more. What comes of it is decided by the message. For a one-person studio without a press agency it is still the cheapest way to be seen at all.
A note for other solo developers: Games Press accepts releases free of charge. It pays to write the headline from a player's point of view rather than the repository's.
