Dev Log · Anpfiff1, v2.1.0, Release, Press
v2.1.0 is out, and this time the press release made it
27 July 2026, release day:
Version 2.1.0 is out, free on Google Play, Steam, itch.io and in the browser. It is the biggest content update since launch.
What is in it
- The country editor, with 78 templates
- Brazil as a new country: its own currency, three divisions, a national cup and a South American continental competition
- Pitch-side advertising, the fan shop, staff, awards, a friendly fixture, a season calendar
- 48 languages, with Arabic newly among them
- More than 60 selectable display currencies
The press story, told honestly
We had already sent a release to Games Press in June, for version 2.0.5. On 16 June our own notes read: not findable on gamespress.com, zero hits for Whistle1 or Anpfiff1. So: not published. The package sat there ready to send, and that was all.
This time it worked. Since 27 July the release has been up, under the headline "RETRO FOOTBALL MANAGER WHISTLE1 LETS PLAYERS BUILD THEIR OWN FOOTBALL COUNTRIES IN FREE 2.1.0 UPDATE".
So it is clear what that is worth and what it is not: Games Press is a distributor that passes releases on to journalists. It is not a review and not a score. Nobody there played the game and graded it. Being carried means the item reaches editors who cover the genre. That is a step, not a destination.
What we took from it: an update with a clear headline gets through, an ordinary maintenance release does not. "Players build their own football countries" is a story. "Version 2.0.5 fixes bugs" is not.
