20 to 5: what comes back from outside
8 August 2026, taking stock:
We write a lot about what we build and rarely about what comes back. So here it is plainly, with numbers and with quotes, the uncomfortable ones included.
Steam: 20 to 5
25 reviews, 20 positive, 5 negative. The game has been there since 22 January 2026, free. 25 is not a big number. For a solo project in a niche genre with no advertising budget it is still the most honest figure we have, because nobody reviews on Steam out of politeness.
More striking than the number is the spread: German, English, Russian, Turkish, Italian, Polish and Chinese. A game about leagues in the style of the nineties, and a good part of the feedback comes from people who cannot possibly have played the original.
What people like (quotes in the original German):
"Wunderbares kleines Game. Einfach und gut, also ohne viel Schnick-schnack :) Hat für mich Suchtpotential und der Ehrgeiz hat mich gepackt."
, A lovely little game. Simple and good, no frills. Addictive, and it got my competitive streak going.
"Sehr geil, macht richtig Laune! Fühle mich in meine Jugendzeit zurück versetzt (Anfang der 90erer)."
, Really good fun. Takes me straight back to being a teenager in the early nineties.
"Sehr schöner Manager im Stil der Klassiker. Ohne großen Schnickschnack, kein stundenlanges Brüten über den Exceltabellen, das erinnert sehr an Anstoss früher"
, A fine manager in the style of the classics. No frills, no hours brooding over spreadsheets. Very much like the old Anstoss.
What people do not like, which is the more useful part:
"Ständig werden die internationalen Pokale nicht zum ende geführt weil lein Gegner fehlt. Danach kann die Saison nicht beendet werden."
, The international cups constantly fail to finish because an opponent is missing. After that the season cannot be ended.
That review was answered by v2.1.4. Another calls the game a cash grab and finds the nineties styling overdone; a third, in Turkish, sees potential and too many bugs. The first is an opinion we can live with. The second is a job.
Five of 25 are negative. We are not cutting them away; they stand in public, and at least two of them made the software better.
YouTube
There is a Let's Play series for Anpfiff1 on the channel Strohmann, "Anpfiff1 – Der Retro Manager", documented to at least episode 7, with titles like "Hand over your money" and "Humiliation in the Champions League". Nobody asked for it, nobody was paid for it, and we found out about it once it was already running.
Watching someone play for seven episodes is the most honest QA department you can have. You see immediately which menu they hunt for three times.
Forums
Threads are running on anstoss-juenger.de and fussballmanager-fun.de. Those are the places where exactly the people this game is made for have been gathering for decades. A thread there is worth more than an advert.

minireview.io lists Whistle1 as an upcoming title. games-manuals.com has a wiki page we did not create.
What it means
This is not a breakthrough. It is the point at which a game stops being interesting only to its developer. The road there did not run through marketing, but through one update with a story, and through people who take the trouble to write a bug down.
